Antalya Metropolitan Municipality celebrated June 5th World Environment Day, which coincides with the eve of Eid al-Adha, with an event organized with the theme of “Say Stop to Plastic Pollution!”.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Education and Innovation Center, Mayor Muhittin Böcek said, “The environment is our common value and our most precious treasure. As Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, we continue our environmental and nature-friendly works without slowing down with this responsibility and awareness.”
A World Environment Day event was organized with the theme of “Take Good Care of Your Environment. Say Stop to Plastic Pollution!” at the Environmental Education and Innovation Center in Karaalioğlu Park, opened by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, heads and representatives of professional chambers, civil society organizations, environmentalists and children attended the event. The opening speech of the event, which began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, was made by Mayor Muhittin Böcek, who earned Antalya the title of 2025 Environmental Capital with his environmental and nature-friendly works. After his speech, Mayor Böcek first visited the stands of environmental associations in the event area and watched the workshops. Recycling artist Aydın Yalçınkaya presented Mayor Muhittin Böcek with a painting he made from waste carpet pieces. Mayor Muhittin Böcek then visited the Environmental Education and Innovation Center and examined the works that were transformed from waste into art. Here, Mayor Muhittin Böcek was informed about the processing of plastic waste into products such as key chains and coasters in the “Waste Plastic Conversion Unit” developed at the Environmental Education and Innovation Center. Students who participated in the event both did environmental awareness-instructive works and played fun games in the special areas set up at the event location.
