Residence Permits Given to Turkish Citizens in Norwey - 10.03.2025

Türkiye  has approved the agreement regarding Norway's Svalbard archipelago. With this arrangement, Turkish citizens are granted the right to reside in the region, fish, establish companies and conduct scientific research. In Svalbard, which has a population of 2,700, Turkish scientists will have more research opportunities. However, it was emphasized that work and housing must be provided before going to the region.

The Spitsbergen Treaty, which determines the status of Svalbard, has been in effect since 1925. The agreement also grants Türkiye the right to establish settlements on the island. Turkish citizens will be able to operate in many areas such as Svalbard's territorial waters, fjords, ports, fishing and maritime activities. This development is expected to make a significant contribution to Türkiye's scientific studies in the polar region.
