10.06.2025
Archaeological excavation and restoration work around the Hıdırlık Tower in Antalya is nearing completion.
The work on the Hıdırlık Tower Surrounding Archaeological Excavation and Observation Terrace Project, which is among the symbols of Antalya and where important findings were unearthed during the excavations, is nearing completion.
According to the statement made by the Metropolitan Municipality, ancient ruins and structures were unearthed in the archaeological excavations initiated in 2020 with the decision of the Conservation Board in order to turn the Hıdırlık Tower, one of Antalya's cultural heritage and historical structures, into a touristic attraction center.
The restoration and protection-repair (conservation) works in the area were completed by the Department of Technical Affairs, and the architectural work of the project is ongoing.
The wooden coating of the area on the north and south sides of the tower and the coatings of the glass surfaces where the ancient ruins can be viewed, as well as the installation of the transparent glass railings surrounding the area so that they do not affect the silhouette of the cliffs, have been largely completed. The teams are making the final touches in the area.
The observation terrace, where works such as the Roman-era columned street structure thought to extend to Hadrian's Gate, the inscribed mosaic with dolphin figures, the ice factory and the ruins of an ancient bathhouse will be exhibited, will be the city's open-air museum.
Visitors will be able to examine the remains on the glass surfaces on the walking path and watch the Mediterranean view from the section created on the cliffs.
In the excavations carried out by archaeologists under the supervision of the Antalya Museum Directorate and the Protection, Implementation and Control Offices, an inscribed mosaic thought to belong to the Late Roman Period was unearthed in the southeastern part of the tower.
