The Producing Municipality of Kepez both produces and saves money with its Textile Workshop, an exemplary implementation of social democratic municipalism. By producing its own uniforms in its own workshop, Kepez Municipality directly converts public money into service.

The Textile Workshop, operating within the Kepez Municipality, stands out with its production model based on women's labor. Not only is it a production center, but the workshop also makes efficient use of public resources, making significant contributions to the municipal budget. The female employees working in the workshop meticulously produce the uniforms for personnel in numerous departments, from security and cleaning to technical services and parks and gardens. These uniforms, which would cost between 20 and 24 million TL if purchased externally, are produced in Kepez Municipality's own workshop with a budget of only 4 million TL. This not only achieves significant financial savings but also supports local production. It also contributes to social and economic development by increasing women's participation in the workforce.

BOTH PRODUCING AND SAVING

The recently launched Textile Workshop has so far prepared a total of 5,670 products for municipal needs. The workshop produced 450 water-repellent, fiber-filled coats for Parks and Gardens, Public Works, and Cleaning Department teams; 2,500 shawls and scarves for Women's Day and Mother's Day celebrations; 100 chef aprons; 100 round tablecloths; 250 doctors' uniforms; 100 health center t-shirts; 50 antibacterial fabric doctors' coats for men and women; 500 short-sleeved safety t-shirts; 500 safety trousers; 620 short- and long-sleeved t-shirts; and 500 trousers for Public Works teams. Kepez Municipality Deputy Mayors Sabahat Adanır and Evrim Yalçın visited the Textile Workshop on Sakarya Boulevard and delivered the completed summer uniforms of the Technical Affairs Directorate to the unit officials.

KEPEZ, THE MUNICIPALITY OF FIRSTS

Kepez Deputy Mayor Sabahat Adanır said, “Kepez Municipality, always a municipality of firsts, has once again undertaken a wonderful project. We are at the Kepez Municipality Textile Workshop, established under the instructions of our Mayor, Mr. Mesut Kocagöz. Today, we will be delivering summer clothing for personnel affiliated with the Public Works Department. The fabrics I examined are of the highest quality. In line with the concept of a municipality producing, our colleagues working in our workshops meet all of our municipality's clothing needs. We previously outsourced these clothes. We used to source summer and winter clothing for our field personnel, who work under difficult conditions, from various workshops. This is no longer necessary. With the Kepez Municipality Textile Workshop, we can meet these needs in-house. I thank everyone who contributed to the establishment of the workshops. Kepez Deputy Mayor Evrim Yalçın said, “We are demonstrating here a fine example of the ‘Producing Municipality’ vision, implemented under our Mayor’s leadership. This place has become a workplace entirely for our fellow citizens. We call it the ‘Flowers of Kepez’ because women’s labor is transformed into production and savings here. Today, we are delivering summer clothing to our Public Works Department personnel. Thanks to this workshop, we have achieved savings of four times the previous year. Our Mayor has provided us with significant support and paved the way. We launched this workshop in just six months and achieved our current success. Our fabrics are breathable, healthy, and of high quality. We have created products that are far superior to fabrics supplied externally. I thank all our colleagues who contributed; well done to them all. From now on, we will meet all of our municipality’s clothing needs from this workshop. In fact, we plan to support the needs of our neighboring municipalities in the future.”
