The project "On the Trail of the Cultural Heritage of the Oghuzs in Great Turkestan" is being implemented in Kazakhstan with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which will shed light on the cultural heritage of the Oghuzs.

The project, which was implemented by Yesenov University operating in the city of Aktau, the administrative center of the Mangystau province on the Caspian Sea coast of Kazakhstan, and supported by TIKA, is important in terms of protecting, documenting and passing on to future generations the common historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic world.

TIKA Astana Coordinator Fuat Erdoğmuş stated to AA that the project aims to shed light on the cultural heritage of the Oghuzs and said, "As part of this project, field research was conducted on the gravestones in the historical Oghuz cemeteries located on the borders of the Mangyshlak peninsula in western Kazakhstan. The graves were examined in detail by Turkish and Kazakh academics." Erdoğmuş, drawing attention to the fact that the research conducted is a pioneering academic study that will contribute to the illumination of Oghuz history and culture in Kazakhstan, said, "The fact that these gravestones, which are among the tangible cultural heritage elements of the common Turkish history, have not been documented until now has increased the risk of their disappearance over time, while also causing the cultural memory to be erased. With the project in question, these works have been recorded for the first time within an academic framework, and an important step has been taken towards the protection of the common cultural heritage of the Turkish world." Erdoğmuş, stating that after the completion of the first phase of the project, which includes field research, it is planned to prepare and publish a documentary film and an album book in light of the data obtained in the second phase, added that this publication will provide a valuable reference source to both the academic community and the public.
