Erdoğan Turan: We're struggling more and more each year in tourism.
29.07.2025

Erdoğan Turan, Secretary General of the Professional Hoteliers Association (POYD) and General Manager of Invista Hotel Belek, said, "We're struggling more and more each year. We're struggling to find staff, we're struggling with our guest portfolio, we're struggling with pricing strategies, and we're also facing serious marketing challenges."

In his assessment, Turan said, "It's not easy to give a definitive answer to whether this season is good or bad, but the market is experiencing difficulties overall. Some regions and hotels are facing more problems, others less. However, looking at the overall picture, I can say we're going through a difficult period. Reservations are often left at the last minute, a situation we call 'last minute.' While 60 rooms appear empty in the morning, we can see that number filled in the evening. This creates significant uncertainty for hotels. Price volatility also makes this process even more difficult; discounts, promotions, and pricing strategies are putting pressure on us." Turan stated that the season was generally good in terms of occupancy rates, but nevertheless highlighted the challenges of working according to a plan and schedule. He also addressed the staff shortage, saying, “Our accommodations are full. Normally, we allow two people to stay in a room. However, because we're struggling to find staff, we're having to accommodate three or four people in a room, especially for employees coming from remote areas. This naturally negatively impacts staff comfort.” Erdoğan Turan concluded by saying, “When we put the calculations together, we'll see more clearly how good or bad the season was economically. However, based on my own career and years of experience, I can say that every year we face a little more challenges. We struggle to find staff, we struggle with our guest portfolio, we struggle with pricing strategies, and we also face serious marketing challenges. But despite all these challenges, I remain hopeful that everything will turn out well.”
